Courses & Events
Pottery Experiences or Lessons - which should you choose?
Pottery Experiences:
Want to get together with friends and have a chance to make and decorate your very own pot? Perhaps you just want to escape daily stresses and have play with clay. If so, our experience events are for you!
Pottery Lessons:
Our 5-week lesson blocks are for those wanting to explore clay a bit further. Our lessons are for all levels of experience, from complete beginners to the more experienced – lessons are designed around improving your pottery throwing.
Pottery Experiences
Come along and play with clay! A relaxing experience where you will be guided and supported when making and decorating your very own pot!
Clay will be prepared and ready for you. You make your pot, decorate it (using coloured underglazes if you wish) and relax. Pop back and see us 3 weeks later (weather/drying conditions dependent!) and pick up your finished pot!

Why do I have to wait 3 weeks?
Our studio elves – aka Lisa & Izzy – will be ensuring your pot survives its pottery journey through the studio firing process. To do this, we first ensure your pot is thoroughly bone dry (to minimise the risk of explosion in the kiln!) We will bisque fire it in our kiln to just over 1000 degrees celsius, where it will become ceramic. When cooled, we then dip it into a transparent glaze, after which it will return to the kiln for its second firing at over 1200 degrees celsius. The drying, heating up and cooling down of pots all take time and patience, particularly in damp weather conditions, but our priority is always returning your pot (that you’ve lovingly made), back to you in one piece! It’s so nice to have a memento of your pottery visit!
Pottery Lessons
We have been running experience events for some time now and are frequently asked, ‘what now?’ and ‘can we come for lessons?’
Well, now we can say, ‘Yes!’
We have expanded our studio space to include 6 wheels as we feel it’s very important to work on your own wheel.
Each 5-week block will explore a different theme or form (but will have inbuilt flexibility).
At the end of the block you may select your favourite piece/pieces to be glazed and fired.
Each lesson will be 2.5 hours in duration, with a short break for tea, coffee, biscuits, possibly cake! We feel that this gives you a more relaxed timeframe within which to learn and throw, with adequate time for setting up and clearing away.

All tools with be provided, but if you have your favourites, do bring them along!
We have studio aprons and towels available.
This is a working pottery studio, and as such, we try to limit our impact on the environment as much as we can. We reuse and recycle both water and clay and try to be as selective as we can about what we fire and will be encouraging participants to do the same.
Lisa has a keen eye for form and functionality, so please don’t worry, she will always be on hand to ensure you get the best from your pots – comfortable handles on your mugs, non-drip teapots and spouts, here we come!
